MACBA YOUTH

Mid Atlantic is especially proud of our long standing commitment to our youth Exhibitors. We offer yearend awards to our youth members that meet the qualifications (email for details) and at our Macungie Show, Mother’s Day week end, we have a fun filled time including a dress up class. See the awards from 2007 hand made by June Gonzalez of Rising Sun Earthworks below.

We like to think our youth are the most important members of our association! We encourage any parent that is looking for an inexpensive, easy and fun activity to seriously look in to having your child show cavies! It is a great learning experience that teaches the children responsibility and gives them a good foundation in public speaking, showmanship and caring for a pet.

We would be more than happy to put you in touch with just the right breeder so your child can be on their way to a rewarding experience that will last a lifetime. Doesn’t every parent want an opportunity to have a picture like the one above? This family of three children attended their very first show and with the help of some of our finest breeders was wildly successful! Look at those faces!

Mid Atlantic Cavy Breeders Association has decided to hold a Year End Youth Points Contest that is open to any youth that can meet the following criteria.

1. The youth must be a member of Mid Atlantic Cavy Breeders Association.
2. The youth must attend and participate in a minimum of three of Mid Atlantic's shows during the 2008 year. Those shows are as follows: The MACBA Specialty show held in conjunction with the PASRBA show the first Saturday of February, the February show in Rancocas, NJ (must be entered in both shows that day), the youth show held in conjunction with the DelMarva Show in the spring, the youth show at Macungie on Mother's Day weekend, and finally the fall show in Rancocas, NJ (must be entered in both shows that day).

Now, any youth that joins MACBA and attends three of the five shows listed above, then can submit any other shows points to be added to their totals. All they would need to do is forward the show secretary report to me and their total points will be kept. The shows can be the National Show, Specialty Show or any other ACBA sanctioned show. 4-H or Fair shows will not be counted unless they are sanctioned by the ACBA. The youth entered does not have to live in the MACBA area, just be a member and attend and participate in three of MACBA's shows. The points will be TOTALED! So if a youth shows several different breeds all of those points will be added together. This is not by breed but by total points.

The top three point earners will then win Pointer Hill Cavy Carriers. They will also have their pictures submitted to the JACBA, and hopefully we will get Robert to do an article on them. I will also see what other goodies I can get donated for them.

This is an attempt to get all the youth more involved and be rewarded for their efforts and their parental support!

If you have any questions, please contact me. Anyone interested must email me with a letter of intent and contact Vera Rhoades at vcrcavies@hotmail. com to join MACBA
